Lardner, Dionysius


Scientific writer, born in Dublin, Ireland. He attracted attention by his works on algebraic geometry (1823) and the calculus (1825), and was elected professor of natural philosophy and astronomy at London University in 1827. He is best known as the originator and editor of Lardner's Cabinet Cyclopaedia (133 vols, 1829--49).
