What is metal weight?

Metal weight tells the mass or heaviness of a metal object. It calculates the amount of metal present in an item.  It tells to a class of elements characterized by their high electrical and thermal conductivity, malleability, and generally different appearance.

Metal weight can be shown in different units of measurement. For instance, grams, kilograms, pounds, or tons, according to the system of measurement being used. It is an important aspect to consider in various domains, including manufacturing, construction, and engineering.

Formula:

Metal Weight = (Equivalent Weight of Metal B × Weight of Metal A) / Weight of Metal B

Types of metal

Here few types of metal with their characteristics are discussed.

Metal

Characteristics

Aluminum

Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and commonly used in construction, transportation, and packaging.

Copper

Excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, used in electrical wiring, plumbing, and electronics.

Steel

An alloy of iron and carbon, with varying amounts of other elements.

Iron

Durable and strong, used in construction, machinery, and automotive applications.

Brass

An alloy of copper and zinc, known for its corrosion resistance and attractive appearance.

Nickel

Resistant to corrosion and high temperatures, used in alloys for turbine blades, electrical resistance wires, and batteries.

Zinc

Corrosion-resistant, often used as a protective coating for other metals, and also used in batteries and alloys.

Silver

Excellent electrical conductivity and high reflectivity, used in electrical contacts, jewelry, and photography.

Gold:

Highly malleable, ductile, and resistant to tarnish. Valued for jewelry, electronics, and investment purposes.

How to calculate metal weight?

Example 1:

Determine the Metal Weight when

Weight of Metal A = 23

Equivalent Weight of Metal B = 51

Weight of Metal B = 42

Solution

Step 1:

Using the formula mentioned below to calculate metal weight

Metal Weight = (Equivalent Weight of Metal B × Weight of Metal A) / Weight of Metal B

Step 2:

Inserting the values

Metal Weight = (51 × 23) / 42

Metal Weight = 1173 / 42

Metal Weight = 27.9285

Example 2:

Determine the Metal Weight when

Weight of Metal A = 54

Equivalent Weight of Metal B = 42

Weight of Metal B = 13

Solution

Step 1:

Using the formula mentioned below to calculate metal weight

Metal Weight = (Equivalent Weight of Metal B × Weight of Metal A) / Weight of Metal B

Step 2:

Inserting the values

Metal Weight = (42 × 54) / 13

Metal Weight = 2268 / 13

Metal Weight = 174.4615

Example 3:

Determine the Metal Weight when

Weight of Metal A = 32

Equivalent Weight of Metal B = 67

Weight of Metal B = 43

Solution

Step 1:

Using the formula mentioned below to calculate metal weight

Metal Weight = (Equivalent Weight of Metal B × Weight of Metal A) / Weight of Metal B

Step 2:

Inserting the values

Metal Weight = (67 × 32) / 43

Metal Weight = 2144 / 43

Metal Weight = 49.8604
