Formulas:

• Young Modulus = Stress (S) / Strain (St)
• Stress = Young Modulus × Strain
• Strain = Stress / Young modulus

How to calculate young modulus, stress, and strain?

Example 1:

Calculate the young modules if stress = S = 125 and strain = St = 5.

Solution:

Step 1: Take the given information.

S = 125, St = 5, young modulus =?

Step 2: Now take the formula of the young modulus.

Young Modulus = S/St

Step 3: Put the given values into the formula.

Young Modulus = 125 / 5

Young Modulus = 25 

Example 2:

Determine the Stress if Young Modulus = 5, and Strain = 150

Solution:

Step 1: Take the given information.

Young Modulus = 5, St = 150, S =?

Step 2: Now take the formula of the stress.

Young Modulus × Strain = Stress

Step 3: Put the given values into the formula.

150 × 5 = Stress

750 m = Stress

Example 3:

Determine the Strain if Young Modulus = 60, and Stress = 180

Solution:

Step 1: Take the given information.

Young Modulus = 60, Stress = 180, Strain =?

Step 2: Now take the formula of the strain

Strain = Stress / Young modulus

Step 3: Put the given values into the formula.

Strain = 180 / 60

Strain = 3 m
