LCM and HCF Calculator

HCF and LCM calculator is used to find the highest common factor and least common multiple of two or more numbers.

What are LCM and HCF?

LCM (Least common multiple) is a way in which we evaluate the prime factors of a number by factor method or by multiple of number and write the multiple of common and uncommon numbers of prime factors to get the LCM. On the other hand, in HCF (Highest common factor) just write the multiple of common numbers of prime factors to get the HCF of the desired problem.

How to Find the HCF and LCM?

Example

Find the LCM and HCF of “12,15,18”

Solution

Step 1: LCM can be calculated by taking the multiples of these numbers.

Multiples of 12:
12 24 36 48 60 72 84 96 108 120 132 144 156 168 180 192 204

Multiples of 15:
15 30 45 60 75 90 105 120 135 150 165 180 195 210

Multiples of 18:
18 36 54 72 90 108 126 144 162 180 198 216

The first common multiple of all the multiples of 12, 15, and 18 will be the least common multiple,

LCM (12, 15, 18) = 180

Step 2: HCF can be calculated by taking the prime factors of these numbers.

Prime factors of 12 = 2 x 2 x 3

Prime factors of 15 = 3 x 5

Prime factors of 18 = 2 x 3 x 3

Now take the common factors.

The common factor of 12, 15, and 18 is 3

So,

HCF (12, 15, 18) = 3
