For a sphere, the curved surface area is the entire surface area of the sphere. It can be calculated by multiplying 4π (where π is approximately 3.14159) by the square of the radius of the sphere.

Formula:

Curved Surface area of sphere = 4 × π × r2

How to find the volume and surface area of a sphere?

Example 1:

Determine the volume of the sphere of radius = 3

Solution

Step 1:

Volume of sphere = (4/3) × π × r3

Step 2:

Volume of sphere

= (4/3) × (3.142856) × (3)3

= (4/3) × (3.142856) × (27)

= 113.04

Example 2:

Determine the curved surface area of the sphere of radius = 13

Solution

Step 1:

Curved surface area = 4 × π × r2

Step 2:

= 4 × (3.142856) × (13)2

= 4 × (3.142856) × (169)

= 2122.6
