A fraction in which the value of the numerator is less than the of the denominator proper fraction.

## Method of conversion

To convert a mixed fraction into an improper form, follow the steps below

mixed fraction = a * b/c

• Multiply a and c by each other.
• After the multiplication of `a by c`, add b to the answer and make it a numerator.
• The denominator always remains the same.
• The simplest way to write it is: (a*c+b)/c

For example

### Example

What is the improper fraction of the mixed fraction 12 * 2/5?

Solution:

Step 1: Multiply the denominator by the whole number and add the numerator of the proper fraction to it.

(a * c) + b = 12*5 + 2

= 60 + 2

= 62

Step 2: Now write the above result over "c".

`[(a * c) + b] / c = 62/5`

Hence, 62/5 is the improper fraction of the given mixed number.
