How to write in standard form?

Example:

Convert 85400000067 in standard form step-by-step.

Solution:

Step 1: Place the decimal after the first non-zero digit.

= 8.5400000067

Step 2: Count the digits after the decimal and raise it as the power of 10.

 = 1010

Step 3: Round off the 2nd place digit after the decimal and multiply the value of 10 found in the second step.

= 8.54 × 1010                

Note:

The round-off step can be skipped if needed. In that case, the number in 1^st step is multiplied by a power of ten i.e. 8.5400000067 × 1010.
